Visit and concert of Bulgarian Folk Ensemble 'Bulgarche'
The Bulgarian Embassy has been in correspondence with 'Rodina'
regarding the visit of Folk Ensemble 'Buglarche' in early February. If
their visas and travel arrangements succeed, we will be able to welcome
nine children and three teachers on the 13 to 15 February 2006. The
Ensemble will give a concert on the night of the 14 February.
Several members of 'Rodina' have agreed to provide accommodation and
food for the children, their teachers and a driver. Rodina is also
using its funds to organise the concert and pay for the transport. We
need people who will be able to take the children to Philip Island and
to the city. We also need sponsors for lunches and tickets to the
various parks and museums.
Tickets can be purchased at the Beach party on
29/02/2006 or at the door on the day of the event
14/02/2006.
Bulgarian Folk Concert 'Zhiva voda'
'Zhiva voda' means 'living, magic waters'. On the 14/10/2005 the
Footscray Arts presented a stunning concert that transported the
audience to
Bulgaria for the night. The experience was like magic with the spirited, haunting sounds
of the Bulgarian vocal tradition, expressed with powerful soaring solos
and spine-tingling harmonies. Vocals were complemented by the raw
sounds of the clarinet, saxophone and two traditional instruments - the
gaida (Bulgarian bagpipe) and the gadulka (a violin-type instrument).
The concert featured Reni Pavlova-Bojilov (vocalist), Ann Bermingham
(vocalist, vocal arranger) and George Gaydov (instrumentalist). Zhiva
voda concert was a cultural event, produced by the Brisbane
Multicultural Arts Centre (BEMAC). The talented folk singer Reni
Pavlova-Bojilov has been singing professionally all her life. She had
been solo vocalist with the famous Bulgarian folk ensemble "Philip
Kutev" for 6 years before migrating to Australia in 2001. She resides
currenly in Brisbane.
